Supporting Our Working Class
and Local Businesses

Taking Pride in America's Working Class

The United States has always been able to promote itself as a nation of workers. The American Dream is built on the experiences, challenges, and labors of our working class. Our workforce is rich in its diversity of trades and occupations. From miners and shipping workers to police and firefighters, to plumbers and electricians, to construction workers and farmers, to healthcare workers and teachers, the fabric of our nation is woven with the work ethic, perseverance, and patriotism of these Americans.

Valuing Union Workers
f
or Business Success

Many workers today face challenges due to corporate demands, new technology, and outsourcing. Our local communities support unions to prevent these challenges from hurting our working class. Supporting union efforts and ensuring corporate success should be a focus for Minnesota. When workers are valued and protected, businesses do better. Businesses that foster strong relationships with union workers contribute to thriving communities.

New technology is quickly replacing many workers in factories, information technology, warehousing, shipping, agriculture, and maintenance. Although new technology can be good, it should not be able to replace the value of a human being. Minnesota must uphold workers' rights to a fair wage, workplace safety, and job security. The use of arbitration and collective bargaining by agencies and unions must be protected as long-standing practices that promote a safe and healthy work environment.

Prioritizing Local Businesses

Local businesses offer a unique perspective into the daily lives of our communities. They provide thousands of jobs and opportunities to residents with a wide variety of skills. Business owners enrich our national culture with a spirit of entrepreneurship and a great work ethic.

Local businesses need laws and policies that help them thrive in the economy. Increasing taxes, incentivizing outsourcing, and burdensome mandates make it difficult for local businesses to compete in the free market. Every Minnesota resident should be able to pursue the American Dream by having the opportunity to own a business. State policies should encourage this spirit of entreprenuership, not make it impossible.
